Supporting our Troops

Neighbors Foundation provides care packages to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Because of the generous donations by our members, we have been able to send thousands of care packages to 500 servicemen and women, including more than 32,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. Some of the things we've sent:

• Snack and food items that hold up well in a combat environment.
• Holiday items to bring some seasonal cheer.

Beanie Babies
Neighbors Foundation collected and delivered Beanie Babies to units in Iraq and Afghanistan for distribution to local children. The reports back from our troops tell us all we need to know: Kids are the same everywhere! A soft stuffed animal always brought a smile to a child whose world has very few happy moments.

2010 Opportunity Hall of Fame Seal of Approval Award

On December 7, 2010, Neighbors Foundation was honored to receive a 2010 Opportunity Hall of Fame Seal of Approval Award from Commonwealth of Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonald. The awards are part of The First Lady's Initiatives Team Effort (FLITE), which Mrs. McDonnell launched in the spring of 2010 to recognize programs, activities, organizations and individuals who embody the ideal of creating a Commonwealth of Opportunity in their communities.

During the award ceremony Mrs. McDonnell remarked, "The American spirit is truly embodied in the idea of 'opportunity.' When we help each other, or provide others with opportunities of their own, we can make this a true 'Commonwealth of Opportunity.' That's why I set out to launch an initiative that helps showcase programs, projects, individuals and organizations that are doing incredible work across the Commonwealth."
